"The renewal of your mind"

There are scripts that play at the back of our minds and they talk lies to us.

These scripts make us self-absorbed and preoccupy us with ourselves. They make us unhappy and miserable and empty. You know what I'm talking about.

It may be something like this: 'I am worthless, I'm not as good as he or she is, I'm fat, I'm not pretty, no one loves me, no one likes me, I'll always be alone, there's something wrong with me, I'm not as smart as others are, I will never have another chance in life, she has better hair, I don't like my skin, I messed up, I sinned too much, I always say the wrong thing, he or she won't forgive me, he or she won't accept me as I am, I'm too difficult, good things will never come to me, God will never accept me, I must try harder'...on and on and on it goes. You can fill in the blank.

There may be some truth to some of those things in our lives, but weather we are like this and not or have done this or not, weather we have these things or not, there is nothing that God cannot forgive, or there nothing that is beyond God gracious help. These things do not add or take away any value and worth from us as those who trust in Jesus for salvation. Only Jesus gives true value and worth to us. God made us in his image. God redeemed us in Jesus. God by his Spirit is in us and making our character to be like his. So it is not what we have or don't have, or have done or haven't done, but it is God in Christ by his Spirit in us that makes us valuable, worthy and significant.

So the false scripts that play in our minds on daily basis are lies that need to be tested and tried with the truth of God's word, and replaced. So what's playing at the back of your mind? Go to a quiet place, ask God to help you to hear what is playing at the back of your mind, and ask yourself, 'is it the truth of God making me trust and rejoice in God? or is it a lie in my mind which is making me to be afraid, worry, anxious and miserable?' Then pray for God's wisdom in how to deal with your vertical and horizontal relationships which have been affected by believing the lies and letting them dominate your minds. God is for you and loves you, and will patiently help you to start replacing or renewing your minds with he truth of God, and in being open about your struggles with those who care for you. And since we all have negative scripts of one kind or another, and at one point or another, there is no need to worry of what will others think of me if I share these things with them. Isolation breeds more of these negative scripts, but openness with others these thoughts sheds light on them to see for what they really are... "But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:13-14)

And Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
