"They were completely amazed"

Mark 6:51b-52, "They [the twelve disciples] were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened."
Jesus just fed five thousand men, and with women and children it might have been close to fifteen thousand people all together. and he did this only with five loaves and two fish. later on the twelve disciples got into a boat to cross the lake, a storm arose and than they saw Jesus walking on the water, totally freaked out and "Immediately he [Jesus] spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down." (vs.50b-51a) In feeding the five thousand+ Jesus performed a great miracle, but he did not explicitly state that he is God, or the Son of God, but implicitly he demonstrated to all people that he is divine, the Son of God, Jehovah Jireh - the Lord who provides. The disciples shouldn't have been afraid, but they should have "understood about the loaves" and trusted in Jesus. Instead "their hearts were hardened". friend, how is your heart toward Jesus tonight? pray the Lord to soften your heart, to see who he is, in what he has done for you on the cross, and how he is providing for your daily needs, and sometimes doing things for you that no human could ever do - it's called miracles. pray that you may see his goodness and power afresh toward you, so you may honor him and trust him, even in the hard times...it is so easy to miss what Jesus wants to teach us about himself, so easy to have our hearts hardened, and so hard to have a soft and trusting heart toward him... but it is not impossible, because with Jesus all things are possible. so we must seek him and call on him... he is in the business of breaking hearts, the hard hearts of unbelief and distrust... There is a huge difference between being amazed at Jesus and having faith in Jesus!
