Finland has imposed a ban on cars registered in Russia entering the country. This is stated in the message of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country. Restrictions will take effect from midnight on September 16.

However, the ban will not apply to all cars. Thus, passenger cars of Russian diplomats are still allowed to enter Finland. In addition, the ban will not affect Russians who intend to enter the country for humanitarian reasons.

Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Finland recommended that citizens refrain from traveling to a neighboring country in cars with Russian registration plates.

Since September 13, Estonia has imposed a ban on cars registered in Russia entering the country. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country, Margus Tsakhkna, this is due to the explanations issued by the European Commission regarding the application of previously imposed sanctions against Russia. Before that (September 11), Latvia and Lithuania introduced a similar ban.

On September 10, the European Commission issued clarifications on the previously imposed sanctions against Russia. According to these explanations, entry into EU countries on passenger cars registered in Russia will be regarded as a prohibited import. Later, the European Commission clarified that each EU country will independently decide whether to follow these recommendations or not.

The Russian authorities consider Western sanctions illegal. After the clarifications issued by the European Commission, the head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and state Construction, Andrei Klishas, offered a mirror answer, and the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, called for severing diplomatic relations with Brussels.
