Author:
Thomas Hooker (1586-1647), puritan pastor in New England
This short puritan treatise has been a source of great help to many, as well as to myself, when feeling far from God, during his chastening and discipline of me. It is not for presumptuous, but repentant sinner.
In the Britannia short biography it says, "Thomas never forgot the true source of his salvation and his success in ministry. As he lay dying, someone said to him, 'Sir, you are going to receive the reward of all your labours.' Thomas looked at him and replied, 'Brother, I am going to receive mercy.' "
