The Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to unconditionally fulfill the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin and transfer officials from foreign cars to domestic cars. This was stated to TASS by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov. According to him, Russian cars for officials will be selected during the competition.
“There is an order from the head of state, it will be executed without question. A special unit will be engaged in procurement. Which company will win — will decide the competition», — he said.
Earlier on September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF-2023) in Vladivostok that it was necessary to build a chain of officials switching to domestically produced cars. The Head of State acknowledged that such cars can look more modest than foreign cars. The President added that the procurement of cars for officials should begin in the near future and that’s when it will be determined who is entitled to what.
Putin gave an official instruction on the priority use of domestic cars by officials in early September. The Government needs to prepare a report on the work done by February 1, 2024.
The proposal to transfer officials to domestic cars was also previously expressed by the chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. He suggested to focus in public procurement on Lada and “Moskvich”. Volodin’s proposal was supported by Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov. According to him, employees of the Ministry of Finance are also ready to switch to domestic cars.
In April, the Moscow City Duma proposed to sell the City Hall’s fleet consisting of Toyota Camry, and buy instead of them domestic crossovers “Moskvich 3” and their electric variants “Moskvich 3e”.
