At the former Mercedes-Benz plant in the Moscow suburb of Esipovo, passenger cars will be produced again by the end of the year. As the general director of the company “Motorhome” told the correspondent of RBC (it is they who now own the company) Andrey Olkhovsky, negotiations are underway with several Chinese companies at once.
The names of these companies are still kept secret. As the top manager stressed, Hongqi is not among them. Previously, rumors have repeatedly appeared that the cars of this company’s name from China will begin to roll off the assembly line of the plant in Esipovo. At the same time, Olkhovsky confirmed that the company will produce exclusively premium cars.
According to Olkhovsky, the Motorhome plans to decide on an industrial partner by the end of September. After that, the choice of the company will be agreed with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
«After the approval of the partner with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, an agreement must be made with the government of the Moscow region and the governor, as with our strategic partners in the SPIC», — Olkhovsky added
«The regulator must understand which product we will bring it to the market so that there is no excessive internal competition. We plan that in December we will assemble the first cars in Esipovo,” he explained.
At the moment, the plant in Esipovo is designed for the annual production of 30 thousand cars. However, the Motorhome is already working to reconfigure its capabilities to produce 60 thousand per year. Moreover, the company plans to get another location for the production of passenger cars.
«This is the prospect of 2024–2025. We are considering different sites that are located in Russia,” Olkhovsky summed up.
The Russian assets of Mercedes-Benz came into the possession of GC “Motorhome” in April 2023. GC “Avtodom” became the owner of 100% shares of JSC “Mercedes-Benz Rus” (official distributor in the Russian Federation), LLC “Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Rus” (Moscow automobile plant), LLC “Mercedes-Benz Bank Rus”, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Rus LLC (leasing subsidiary) and Mercedes-Benz Capital Rus LLC (engaged in leasing, factoring and car insurance).
