In the Kirov region, traffic police inspectors began to search for traffic violators using unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the local traffic police, traffic police conduct full-fledged raids, launching drones. First of all, we are talking about the search for drivers driving into the oncoming lane.
“With the help of an aircraft that notes everything that happens on the road, the violator is monitored until the moment of stopping by the traffic police inspector. The image is transmitted online to the ground control point,” the agency explained.
The regional traffic police added that at the moment, the search for violators using drones is conducted on federal highways in the Yuryansky and Slobodsky districts, where the traffic intensity is highest.
Thanks to data from aircraft, police officers detect from two to five violations per day. For each fact, traffic police inspectors make up administrative materials, responsibility for which is provided for in Part 4 and Part 5 of Article 12.15 of the Administrative Code.
In August 2021, the traffic police reported that drones are used to fix violations in 17 regions, including Moscow, Krasnodar Krai, Tatarstan, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions, Buryatia and others. In addition, unmanned aerial vehicles are on duty on the toll roads of Avtodor Group of Companies.
The State Traffic Inspectorate has repeatedly warned drivers about the serious consequences of driving into oncoming traffic. For example, the head of the department, Mikhail Chernikov, stated that such a dangerous maneuver is one of the most important violations affecting mortality on the country’s roads.
At the moment, driving through a solid oncoming lane is punishable under Article 12.15 of the Administrative Code. This violation can be recorded not only by the inspector, but also by cameras. In the latter case, the fine will be 5 thousand rubles. If the same violation is recorded by a traffic police officer, then the driver faces deprivation of rights for four months (a fine of 5 thousand rubles is also possible, but this is decided by the court).
